The holidays are over! What now?

Holidays over

Well that’s it. All over for another year. Did you survive? Did you spend the whole time tearing your hair out wondering how to juggle work and children and animals? Were copious amounts of alcohol involved? The great news is that’s it now until well you know that dreaded word that begins with c!  So, what happens next?

Don’t get me wrong, summer is great, well when we have one that is. Which, let’s face it, this year, not so much! It’s a chance to get out in the countryside, clear your head and take a break from it all. However, I do enjoy getting back to routine. Summer gives me the chance to reflect on the first 8 months of the year. What have I achieved? What do I need to do in the coming months to end the year where I planned to? To look at what’s worked and what hasn’t. A chance to identify whether systems and processes are doing what I set out for them to do.

So now September is here, I’ve got a clear plan. An idea of what I need to do and how I’m going to get there. I think every business should have a goal whether it be month by month or quarter by quarter or even year by year. It’s a great idea and it helps you to measure and celebrate your progress. A way to drive your business forward and measure your success and even failures. You can also see where you have peaks or spikes in your business. Each business is different. For some businesses July and August are notoriously quiet (a lot of my clients go away then) for some the summer can be their busiest time of year. For those of you in the retail/gift industry, for example, you’ll be about to head into the most manic time of year. No two people’s plans/aims and goals will be the same but the outcome will always be in your hands.

I’m looking forward to the remainder of the year and aiming towards those goals. Are you?
